Privacy Notice

Information You Submit

A name, location, or other term entered into an outside search tool is sent to the provider that operates the tool. We do not store or log those search terms on our own systems. A message sent directly to us may include a name, email address, and its contents. We retain it as needed to respond and do not disclose it outside the organization unless law requires that disclosure.

Automatic Technical Data

Normal web logs and measurement tools may record technical details when a page loads:

  • IP address and visit timestamp
  • Browser name and version
  • Device type and operating system
  • Pages viewed and time spent
  • The referring site, when supplied

Cookies help measure use and remember basic settings. A browser can reject them, though parts of the site or an outside tool may then work differently.

How Data Is Used

Collected data helps operate and secure the site, route a request to a chosen search partner, understand which pages readers use, diagnose faults, and support interest-based advertising. Those uses do not change access rights under North Carolina’s Public Records Act, G.S. Chapter 132, because official records remain with their government custodians.

Outside Sites and Advertising

Links lead to sheriff and corrections pages, jail rosters, booking feeds, court portals, and third-party tools. Once a visitor leaves, the destination’s privacy policy controls. Advertising partners may track activity across sites on their own systems to select ads.

Limited Data Sharing

We do not sell personal data. Information may be available to search partners processing a submitted query, analytics vendors, advertising networks, or a law-enforcement or government body acting under a valid legal order.

Security Has Limits

Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used, but no internet service can promise breach-proof storage or transmission.

Visitors Under Eighteen

This site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. Use the Get in Touch page to report information submitted by a minor and request deletion.

Your Privacy Choices

Subject to applicable law and reasonable identity checks, a person may ask for a copy of data we hold about them, correction of inaccurate data, deletion, or an opt-out from certain processing. These requests do not control records kept by RCSO or another linked office.
